If a user asks you to change their Open edX (LMS) username, the answer is, we can’t. Changing an edX username can be destructive of some functionalities and references. We don’t offer that option, unless there is a particularly exceptional case.

As a system workaround, you can suggest creating an account with a fake-it-out email that will route to the same email, if they truly need a different user name. For example, We could do support+new@appsembler.com and it would route emails to support@appsembler.com.
