Adding a new virtual labs (AVL) user

  1. Log into the /admin page for the AVL site 
  2. Click on Users 
  3. Click + Add User 
  4. Use the user’s email address as their username and set a randomly generated password. Send these credentials to the user via either Keybase or ShareFile and make sure they know to change their password at https://<cluster-url.com>/admin/password_change/.
  5. Leave the Ssh public key field blank
  6. Click Save 
  7. On the next page, fill out the appropriate First name, Last name, and Email address information.
  8. Tick the box next to Staff status. Leave the Superuser status box unticked. 
  9. Under the Groups section, highlight the admin permissions group in the Available groups box – usually it’s the only one available – and click the arrow to move it to the Chosen groups box.  If you don’t see a group here, please check with the AVL engineers: there should be a group for you to choose.
  10. Scroll down to Ssh public key at the bottom of the page, and enter the text “example” in the text box. 
  11. Click Save
